Shooting tethered to a laptop

- Tethered shooting simply means that my camera is tethered to my computer using, usually, a USB cable. Tethering gives me some pretty cool functionality, and for certain types of shooting, is not just more convenient, and doesn't only make for a faster work flow, it allows me to engage with my subject in a way that's a little more difficult when I'm standing behind a camera. Taking a normal USB cable and attaching it to my computer in my camera. Somewhere on your camera there's probably either a mini or a micro USB connector. If you're using a smaller camera, it may have a proprietary connector. They should have given you one with your camera. I'm using a Canon camera, which comes with something called the EOS utility. That's on the CD that came with your camera. I have here this option Camera Settings/Remote Shooting. If I click that, it puts me into this cool remote shooting mode, as you might expect.
