- As remote pilots in command, we are in charge of the safety of all of our flights. But it's more than just being in charge. It is our responsibility, both legal and moral, to make sure that we check all we need to check to ensure safety. This is something that I take very seriously when flying both manned and unmanned aircraft. It is not so much that I am in charge, it is that I am responsible. Preflight inspection assesses the operating environment, it includes informing any crew members of what they need to know, having the necessary documents with us at all times, and, of course, the actual inspection of the aircraft, which includes control links, power, weight and balance, and making sure the registration number is visible. Before you fly, check the weather, check your airspace, and any restrictions.
