Macro lenses for more than macro

- When I say macro lens, you probably think photographing close up subjects. After all, that is the key point of having the macro lens. By definition, a macro lens is a lens that's able to focus very closely to a subject. So, I can get very close to a subject, and still photograph, and hopefully get a great image. But a macro lens is not used exclusively, it's not limited to only close up photography. I can use a macro lens for any photography. And in fact, sometimes that is tremendously advantageous. Because by design, macro lenses tend to be among the sharpest lenses available. I'm here in Central Park in New York City, and I found a spot here that has some wonderful rowboats. It's an iconic scene. Typically, we have young couples in love rowing around on the pond. Here, it's early in the morning, and so, they're all still tethered at the dock. And I thought it looked interesting. It just so happens that a 90 millimeter focal length worked very well for this scene. And I happen to…
