- I've got three tips to help you use a tripod in your portraiture, just to make it easier to use the tripod. People don't like using tripods because it's an extra thing. These three tips will help you have a more smooth experience using your tripod. First of all, the ball head is important again because it's going to allow you to level your camera according to your subject. Not necessarily according to what's truly level. When you make a picture of people, you'll probably want to have the eyes level in the photograph. Although, they may be tilted when you pose the people. With the ball head, you can quickly adjust your camera so that their eyes appear level in the picture. That's really important. Now, two other things to make it easy to use your tripod. When you set up your tripod, put one leg pointed forward towards your subject. That means that now when you walk up to the tripod from the back to use the camera, you've got space and you don't have a leg interfering with your feet…
