Focus peaking

Focus peaking

- Because a mirrorless camera doesn't use a mirror, that means that we're essentially always seeing the image from the image sensor itself. In other words, with a digital SLR that employs a mirror, the light is going through the lens, striking a mirror and going up through a prism so that we can see the view through the lens using an optical viewfinder. We're literally looking right through the lens. With a mirrorless camera instead, we're seeing the signal that's being gathered in real time by the image sensor. One of the advantages that that gives us is that we can always have focus peaking. And what that means is we can have an assisted display when we're manually focusing to see what portion of the frame is actually in focus. And so if I'm adjusting my focus for a subject, whether I'm looking at the LCD display on the back of the camera, or the electronic viewfinder, I'm able to display focus peaking. An outline, a…
