Finding your style and mastering it

- There are many styles of headshots out there, and to a great extent, you're going to develop your own style. Now developing your own style isn't something you need to worry about. It's something that will happen naturally for you the more and more you shoot, and the more you learn to interact with people, and work with your camera and people together. Something to remember, though, is that it's not 1986. We don't need to shoot in portrait orientation with the camera turned vertically. One of the problems with shooting a vertical portrait is that in order to have the eyes in the proper place in the frame, maybe 1/3 of the way down from the top, you now have to also include the belly button in the picture, and nobody wants to see more belly buttons in headshots. I suggest that a more modern style of photography is doing a headshot and even cropping off the top of the head, and really emphasizing the face. People consume their headshots, either on small business cards or on mobile…
