Exposure compensation or manual?

- I've heard more than a few photographers suggest that real photographers use the manual exposure mode rather than one of the automatic or semi automatic exposure modes. And yet really, we're always trying to accomplish the same thing, a good exposure. So the only question is how specifically we're going about that. In both cases, we're aiming based on a meter reading from the camera on compensating for that reading. So for example, sometimes even meter reading might be perfect. In other cases, you might need to compensate to a plus or minus exposure compensation. With manual exposure, you would simply adjust your exposure settings until the meter shows that it's too bright or too dark based on the meter. But of course, the idea is that you're able to override that meter based on what you think will give you a better exposure.
