Exploring point of view

- Most of us move through the world with our eyes an altitude somewhere between five and six feet above the ground. That means when we have a photographic impulse we tend to shoot from that altitude parallel to the ground. But point of view is a critical consideration in composition. We've already seen some images where point of view was essential to the success of a composition. We saw how this image by Jacob Cunningham delivered a lot of its power because of where he was standing. We've also seen how some images can only be recognized in the first place by taking an unusual point of view such as this image by James Podrasky and this image by Jacob Cunningham. Jim Heid spotted this snail and changed his point of view. I'm assuming he didn't spot it because he was crawling down this rough gravel road which is why I say he changed his point of view. But in the process he not only composed a great shot of this snail, but he captured some beautiful soft light and made use of that ghostly…
