Exploring monopod options

- In previous installments of The Practicing Photographer, I've talked about tripods, I also talked about them some in my Gear and Workflow course, today, I want to discuss monopods. I've kind of come to the conclusion that some people think of a monopod as like a poor man's tripod. That if you have a tripod, you don't need a monopod, but the fact is, both are useful. If you can only choose one, take the tripod, for sure, but there are a lot of reasons to have a monopod, even if you already have a tripod. First of all, they're very small and light, it's a third of the legs of a tripod. You get most of the same features in a monopod that you find in a tripod, you get extensible legs, you have a place on top to mount a head, some monopods come with their own heads. You'll also find monopods in a variety of materials, from aluminum to carbon fiber. Those, of course, come in varying weights and price points. Why a monopod if you've already got a tripod?
