Direct attention to the subject

- [Instructor] Our eyes are naturally drawn to the lightest area in a photograph. Because of this, we can use a vignette to draw attention to our subjects. There are a couple ways to do this. Go to Edit, Effects and select Vignette. Click on the triangle to open more options. You can adjust the size, the shape, and the feathering. The effects are applied equal distance from the edge of the frame. This is fine if your subject is in the middle of a photo, but if not, use a radial gradient. Select Radial Gradient. Make an oval around the subject. If you want a circle, hold the Shift key down while you're doing this. Make adjustments with any of the effects. My favorite is Exposure. Make sure the Invert box is checked so that the effect goes outside the oval. Now you can move the oval, change its shape or adjust the feathering. Here's the before, and here's the after.
