- I want to grab a quick portrait of Kristen here, and you should already understand what's going on here. We're outside and that means that our key light is the sun. And it's shining down on her. And as you've already seen in the studio, your key light shines in a particular direction and it casts shadows. And that's what we're getting here. The sun's up there, it's shinning this way. We're getting strong shadows on the side of her face. Her eyes are shadowed. Her nose isn't casting, well actually, her nose is casting shadows down over her mouth. She's got these great high cheekbones, they're casting shadows. It's just a mess of shadows. We've got to do something about it. First though, I want to show you what happens if I just grab a shot as is. And this is what we get. A lot of shadows. She needs a fill light. We've got the key light role taken care of.
