Best practice: Looking for interesting scenes

- If you're like me, then there have probably been times when you've gone out shooting, only to find that you just weren't seeing anything that seemed like it was worth pointing your camera at. So you're all excited to come back with all sorts of images, and you come back with four shots. I think there are several reasons that this can happen, but I think that, for me, this most often happens when I go out looking for photos. In other words, I'm out walking around, and I think that an obvious photo is going to present itself. But, of course, that will never happen because my eyes are not cropped to a particular rectangle and because I see depth and because I see a tremendous amount of dynamic range. So when I walk around waiting for a photo to present itself, I end up going home empty-handed. But, as a photographer, if you're not looking for photos, then what are you looking for?
