The power of portraits

You know it is part of human nature to be interested in pictures of people and portraits are indeed valuable. You know some of the most valuable photographs of all time are photographs of people. One thing that's happened recently is since the digital revolution more portraits of people have been taken than ever before in the history of photography. And a lot of times as photographers, as we start to talk portraiture we get really excited about this modern body of work. If you want to get good at taking pictures, we need to step back a little bit. We need to realize that portraits have been taken throughout the history of humanity, ever since cave paintings or paintings in the middle ages, or say some of those historic photographs, and what this means is that you and I have something to say. You and I have something to contribute. No matter where you live, no matter of young or old, introverted or extroverted, we have a story to tell and portraits indeed matter. These stories matter…
