- Welcome back, I hope you enjoyed the challenge to use a long lens in order to create an original, perhaps abstract, intimate image that is truly yours. Now my solution is of course going to be different than yours or anybody's because it's really about being unique, so what I did is, I noticed that there was an opening in the clouds and Mount Cook, the tallest mountain in New Zealand showed itself and so instead of taking that wide angle iconic landscape, with a long lens, I went in super tight and just showed the peak with the surrounding clouds just really super detailed just right on it.
I think it's going to be interesting and it's different, and I'm excited about it. The next thing I did, because we have such a wonderful reflection here is I said, "What does that look like in the water? Would I get a similar image, but with a little bit of impressionistic feel from the movement of the water?" So I tilted the lens down, and I shot that scene reflected in the water, and it's going to be really fantastic to compare the two, to see if I want the super realistic image or the one that has a little bit of impressionist feel.
The third thing I did, I wanted to do something totally different, so I found some beautiful green leaves on a branch and all I did was isolate it with the wonderful dark color of the water behind it. Gave it nice polarization and made sure the green colors of the leaves popped. It's a very simple image. But what I like about it is it's a theme I love to do in different places so I have images from other locations where I've done this and it's because I've learned that, because it's something I've experimented with, it's wonderful to try it in all sorts of different locations.
So thank you so much for doing the challenge, I hope you enjoyed it. I'll tell you what, if you struggled with it, that's perfectly normal, keep at it. Every time you're at a location that calls for wide angle, take it off, put the telephoto on, and experiment.
