- Hey everybody, welcome to my solution for day five for the Street Photography Challenge: going up to a stranger and doing a posed portrait of them. So for me, when I was sort of looking for interesting characters that I wanted to photograph, there were a lot of sort of young people, I think there's some students in the area, business people, no one was really catching my eye, until I noticed Jimmy. Excuse me, sir. - Hi. - Can I ask you a question? Can you hear me with the headphones? I'm a street photographer and I'm just taking what I think are interesting faces I see you, it says "New York" there, that would make a nice portrait.
- Go ahead. - Yeah? Okay stay there, stay there. - Knock yourself out. - Let me do a nice portrait of you. And you know, what struck me about Jimmy was, I thought he had a beautiful face, I did notice the "New York" on his ball cap, and I thought, I saw the finished portrait there and I thought it would be good. So even though I was a little hesitant, I went up to talk with him and as it turned out, he was willing to let me take his picture. Now, he was maybe a little bit of a difficult subject, but you know what, I respect that, I will only push him so far. Alright, you want to do one more? Forget those guys, let me just get you.
Well, let me just get a shot. Alright. - You're taking too much of my time. - Okay, but I want to get a good one, so look right at me, no no no no, just a regular, give me a nice - - This is regular! - I want a calm, a calm look. Cool, I like the hat, though, it says "New York", wear it, because I've got the thing on top, yeah it says "New York" on the top here, I like that. Okay, so look here at me, wait. It's not easy for me to do this- - I'm Captain New York, you've heard of Captain Kirk, I'm Captain New York! - Okay, awesome. - I am not a crook.
- Let me see if this works. - I am not a crook. - I think I got a good one and the bottom line was we had a great conversation, I think I was able to get a really nice picture, and that's what it's all about. You know, as a street photographer, when you do this kind of posed portraiture, you're going to have a great life experience, and for me, meeting Jimmy was a great one. He's not your average person that I've encountered here at this particular location. So, I really hope that you've enjoyed the Five-Day Street Photography Challenge as much as I have.
I mean, I know that at times it probably was meant to get your out of your comfort zone, I hope it stretched you a little bit, I can't wait to see the results that you're going to be posting, and well, get out there and keep shooting.
