Day one challenge: Finding good light

- Welcome to Day One of the 5-Day Photo Challenge. These next five days are going to be kind of like boot camp for you, except no one's going to be yelling at you, and you're probably not going to be sore afterwards. The way this is going to work is each day, I'm going to give you a very simple assignment. I'm going to task you with one particular photo goal that you're going to have for that day, and you're going to go out and you're going to work that goal, and when you come back, you're going to watch a second movie, wherein I'm going to show you my solution to that photographic challenge. You're then going to have the chance to post your own solutions and hopefully learn something from the whole experience. So here we are on Day One, we're starting out, and I'm going to give you a challenge that if you've watched a lot of my stuff before, should sound vaguely familiar. I want you to go guide your photographic process by finding light. Today, I don't want you to go out looking for a particular thing, a particular subject matter, a particular type of shot. I want you to walk through the world, and if you see a play of good light, I want you to see if you can turn that into something. Not light itself as the subject, but if it's lighting up something, see if that subject now catches your attention, and work that into a shot. So you're out in the world, and you see some light, and maybe it's shining on a dog, and you go, "Oh, okay, I'm going to work this shot now here in this good light." It's a chance to practice basic compositional skills and gear things in your favor because you've already decided the light is good. So that's the challenge, give it a try, and then come back and watch my solution.
