- Let's take a second to talk about the three major food groups for travelers, cell, data, and money. The bad news is this is not going to be as great as it was in Hong Kong where we just walk into a 7-11, or whatever, and grab your SIM card and go. This is a Muslim country so they'll take your passport number. The SIMs are pretty expensive here and data is more expensive than it was in Hong Kong. It didn't look great, from the outside, when I was researching it. After I got here, we did find some plans that were reasonably priced, but we still decided to go without cell service and data here. The best thing to know, when you're doing this, when you're traveling, you mostly need mobile maps on your phone for data. What you do is, you go to your hotel room, with your WiFi, and you go to Dubai, for instance, that's where we're at now, and zoom to out about including the whole city and type in the words, on Google Maps, OK Maps, that's O K space Maps.
