- You can easily visit Dubai for a week and not even know about the modern Jumeirah. Which would be a shame. It's only a few years old, but it's designed to evoke the romance of being in a traditional souk or market of days gone by. And they do a great job of it too. Because of that the Souk Madinat in Jumeirah is not only a great place to shop and eat, but also a wonderful place to take photographs. In addition to the designer stores and dozens of restaurants on-site, there are also lots of carts with wares from around the region. The latter are my favorite place to souvenir shop in Dubai. With cool things being imported from all over the Middle East and the Subcontinent. It should go without saying, but you should be prepared to bargain here. If you don't want to bargain, no worries, in fact, you'll be popular with all the merchants. But seriously, you should bargain at the stalls. If Madinat is evocative of a historic souk during the day it is downright convincing after sundown…
