- Dubai is a city of expats. It is estimated that as many as 90% of the people who live here are from someplace else. And construction workers, the people who built this city, comprise one of the largest groups of expats. So what do they do for fun? Well for one thing, they like to wrestle. Every Friday at about five PM, hundreds of Pakistani laborers gather to cheer on traditional loincloth wearing Kushti wrestlers as they grapple in the dirt and grit. The time is approximate, and varies throughout the year, so you may want to ask and/or arrive early to be sure not miss it. To get here, head to the Palm Deira metro station and walk to the adjacent sandpit in the northeast direction. If you're not sure, ask, or follow the crowd. You'll also see lots of people playing cricket in the nearby sandy areas.
