- Pro-tip: Don't discount your iPhone as legitimate video gear. We have traveled very light throughout this process around the world with small mirrorless cameras for our stills, but we frequently made use of our iPhone as a video camera especially in places where a bigger camera won't easily go. I want to show you two pieces of gear that make that work really well. Number one is this little white thing that's holding the phone. It's called a mefoto sidekick, and it's designed to allow you to point your phone any direction on a tripod and hold it firmly. It will mount into a tripod directly. Or the bottom plate is the same shape as an Arca-Swiss quick-release plate, so that works really well. The thing right beneath it is even cooler, and it's called a DRIFT TIMELAPSE. It's about 30 bucks. They're both about 30 bucks each. And it's like an oven-timer with a tripod socket at each end. You just turn it. That'd be 15 minutes worth, and it just slowly turns around where the time-lapse is…
