Photographing the crowd at 57th street in NYC

- Okay, so I have my telephoto lens and I was concentrating on one side of the street. The light was hitting it but then the clouds kinda came in, the light wasn't so interesting. I'm always aware of everything that's going on behind me. You may have seen me kind of turn and look because there was at one point, I saw this interesting woman with a dog go and with a telephoto lens because I'm able to react quickly and with a zoom I'm able to zoom in. I could really cover a lot of ground that I can't necessarily when I'm using a wide lens. So that's another advantage for using a telephoto zoom. It allows you the flexibility of staying back and being able to react, not only in the corner you thought was the shot, but if you see something you can move quickly and you can get it. It's all about being able to react quickly. As a street photographer you're not thinking. If you have time to think you miss the shot. So you just gotta sorta trust your instincts and shoot and hope for the best…
