Introduction

- Welcome to Photo 101, Low Light Photography. I'm Joseph Linaschke, aka Photo Joseph. Have you ever wanted to overcome the challenges of low light photography but didn't know where to start? Well, that is what this course is all about. We'll start with shooting indoors, something we all do, just taking pictures of our friends and family in our own homes. And you usually don't want to use flash for that. So we're going to talk about how to get some great shots in low light in your own house. Then we'll move on to city lights. There are some fantastic lights that you can shoot for example in Las Vegas, where we shot this course, and you'll be able to see just how to capture the essence of those incredible colorful lights. We'll also take a look at headlight tracking, where you can create really cool lines with headlights tracking through your scene, and just create beautiful, beautiful images. Then we're going to take it outdoors, into the great deserts of Nevada, balancing starlight, moonlight, then natural light that we have along with artificial light, putting it all together to create some incredible compositions. We'll discuss white balance and how the auto white balance on your camera may give you a great-looking image but how you can probably do even better. And then we'll talk about post-processing. I'll show you some tricks that you can do on the computer to make sure that even the highest ISO, noisiest images can look fantastic. So, join me on this journey through low light photography and discover how just because the lights go out, doesn't mean it's time to put the camera away.
