After Sarah and I chatted, we headed off into the Creek area of Bur Dubai. This is one of my favorite spots in the city mostly because it's ground level and real. You can take a ride across the creek on an abra which is what they call the water taxis here for one dirham. That's about 27 cents. The creek is the focal point for trade between Dubai and countries like Iran and Somalia among other places. There's always something interesting happening here. When traveling, I try to make it a point to interact with people as often as possible. I've found that people the world over are as a rule friendly and approachable. A good example is this boat full of merchant sailors working out of Iran and trading with Dubai. While walking on the far side of Dubai Creek, Sarah and I struck up a conversation, and were quickly invited aboard. The boat looks like it could easily be 50 to 75 years old.
