- Hi, and welcome to The DIY Photographer. I'm your host, Joseph Linaschke. Today, we're going to be working with natural light which usually makes things easy, but as you can see here the sun streaming through this window on our model is not doing her any favors. Unfortunately, that harsh light is making harsh shadow and it just isn't going to work. Fortunately, it's an easy fix as long as you've got my trusty friend, Mylar. A sheet of Mylar over a bright window is going to diffuse the light beautifully. Now the nice thing about a big roll of Mylar is that it's, number one, really inexpensive but two, you can cut this into any shape and size that you want. You can cover a piece of a window, an entire window. You could cut it to cover a flash head or a clamp lamp or anything like that that you want. So we're going to take this and cover the big window behind me. Now I already have a piece nicely cut to size, and I'm going to string this up over the window. But before I do, let me just…
