- Hi, and welcome to the DIY photographer. I'm your host, Joseph Linaschke. What's better than one flash? Two flashes. Let's think about this. If you've got one flash, you have a maximum amount of light that can come out of this one flash. So, there's a max limit to how much light you can push out of it. Also, there's a recycle time you have to think about. At whatever power I'm using the flash at, it's going to take time to recycle. It might take two seconds, or three, or four, or five, or whatever it is. But, if I can add a second light, I can do two different things. I can either double the light output, right? So now, instead of one at full power, I can have two at full power. Or, I can cut my recycle time in half at any given amount of needed output. If I have one flash, that takes four seconds to recycle. If I have two, they're each going to be firing at about half of that power. And, they're probably going to take half as long to recycle.
