- We've covered quite a few pieces of equipment…that you'll need to have to operate your home darkroom,…and you may have a little trouble finding them…because darkroom photography is not as popular…as it once was.…Why, I don't know,…but there are a few things that you can purchase used…and save a great deal of money.…This particular enlarger, new, the last time I looked…was close to $700.…The Oklahoma Arts Institute was kind enough…to lend us this enlarger for the filming of this course.…That being said, if you look around…you can probably find enlargers like this…used for a substantial savings.…
I would suggest strongly though that you do not buy one…unless you can inspect it beforehand,…and things to look for would be,…you need it to rise and fall very smoothly.…As you move through the geared mechanisms…they should all be smooth without hints of catching.…A lot of times, as they wear out,…the cogs in the gear teeth will get worn down,…and so you can get a loss of alignment,…you can get difficulty in precise adjustment and focus.…
In this course, photographer and educator Konrad Eek builds on his Shooting and Processing Black-and-White Film course to show the equipment, steps, and techniques involved in setting up a darkroom and making your own prints. From essential gear and setup considerations to processing techniques, this course is a complete introduction to the pleasures of black-and-white printing.
