- So when you've finished your printing for the day, there's a few things that need to be done before you can walk away from the darkroom. We've just been moving the prints essentially into a holding bath, and they really need a good washing to remove all the residual chemistry. I cannot stress how critical this step is. The simplest way to do it is just in a tray, and I wanna show you how I do that, is I come over with a tray, bring them in, and just go over to the sink and put 'em under running water, and they need to wash for five minutes. And I'll interleave them, move them around, just to make sure that everything's getting thoroughly clean, and I will completely empty the tray they're in frequently because the tray, the water in the tray, has got the old chemistry that you're trying to wash, so every time you completely drain the tray, you're working towards getting the prints cleaner.
