- In my work as a financial therapist, there are certain issues I see a lot. That's because for most of us, money issues aren't just a matter of making the numbers line up. They expose real dilemmas in our lives. Unless we understand and resolve the dilemmas, it can be hard to build the financial life we want. Hi. I'm Amanda Clayman, and in this short course I wanna share with you five things you need to know about money to create the life you want. The first, is to know your own financial values. Think of money as a form of energy that we direct toward the things that are important to us.
Things like freedom, generosity, comfort, or taking care of others. When we are clear about what's important to us, our values, we can make sure we organize our money around them. So, let's say that you value freedom. It's important to you to be able to take work that you want and not feel tied to a job, or jobs, that drain your energy. To build a financial life around that value, you would probably want to keep your committed expenses as low as possible. Anything that increases your overhead decreases the freedom you have to be selective about income generating work.
What are the most important values in your life? Make those the foundation of your financial plan. With your values at the center, it becomes easier to organize your other choices around them.
