The building blocks

- Slides consist of three simple elements. Background, words and image. And one design rule... Keep them simple. Slide format is almost always landscape. Meaning wide, the old-style four by three ratio or the modern widescreen which is sixteen by nine. Words are set in a type face, or a type font. As a rule, you'll use only one. It should be a basic, clear style of medium weight. Sometimes you'll need more, but it's fairly rare. Image is any graphical element. Line, Shape, Chart, Illustration, Photograph. One more visual tool is colour. You'll use colour for two reasons... One is to differentiate one element from another, usually to draw attention to it. The other is, really to beautify. Or to set a visual theme, or tone. A set of slides is called a slide deck. You'll build your slide deck using a template of your own making. A template is a set of parameters that you specify that keeps your presentation consistent from beginning to end. A typical template will include the page…
