- [Instructor] The first step in securing your PHP installation is to keep all of your software versions up to date. Keeping software versions up to date is the easiest and most important security measure that you can take. It's easy to do but that doesn't mean it will be easy to stay on top of it. It requires an ongoing commitment from you. You can't simply install all the software, launch the website, and then walk away and have it be secure. There are most likely bugs in the software that you're using that you don't know about and that you can't know about. Those bugs will be discovered over time, either by the good guys or by the bad guys. And when they are, those bugs will get fixed. That's why updating to the new version matters so much. New versions include bug fixes and security patches that you need. By the time these security issues get fixed, I guarantee you that the bad guys know about them and are ready…
