- [Instructor] Yii is an acronym for yes it is, and it means simple and evolutionary in Chinese. This framework was created in 2008 to be a high performance framework, and in many ways it is a low profile high performance framework. The Yii framework is managed by a small company called Yii Software, LLC. They provide some support and some development, but no training. It's a pretty small company. It's released under the BSD license, if that matters to you. Its performance was an inspiration, and it was a key to the early popularity. 2.0 was released in October of 2014, and that is still the current release. So, it's not an extremely active software branch, however it is very popular and it's still among popular uploads in PHP on GitHub. The previous version 1.1 is in maintenance mode.
