Working with dither

- Many DAWs record audio at high bit depths of 24 bits or higher for more accurate recording and dynamic range. However many consumer devices can't play back at higher bit rates. That's when you may need to dither or reduce the bit depth to make the recording compatible with the playback device. So dither is one of those modules just like the codec module that can be accessed at the lower right corner of Ozone. It's kind of hidden and you can find the module here and then turn it on by clicking this power button. By default it's bypassed because these days there are many times where you actually won't need to dither and more and more devices are compatible at higher bit depths. But dither is a tricky one to grasp because you are essentially adding noise to reduce possible distortion as you output at a lower bit depth. So, by default we're going to be set to 16 bits which is CD quality audio and then the dither amount from low to strong essentially adjusts the amplitude of our dither…
