Outlook power tip #4: In this video, author Gini von Courter demonstrates using the Outlook peek feature to display information from another app without switching out of your current app. The peek can be displayed briefly or docked.
- [Instructor] Another way to get some information about another application is to use the peek. For example, if I'm in email and I want to simply look at the calendar but I don't need to switch to it, I can point to the calendar and it opens what's called the peek, it's just a simple pane, it tells me this is what I have going on today, that's what I have going on tomorrow, it shows me the next few days of the start of next week, and if I want to look at a particular day, it gives me a date navigator so I can look, for example, at what's happening on March 21st. So if that's the question, are you available at noon on March 21st, I can answer that question without even needing to go to the calendar. If I wish I can dock this peek in the upper right hand corner there's a dock the peek button and when I do that the peek is now over here, and if I click on a particular day it will show me that information. So back to looking at March 21st, here I am, and there's my information. I can simply close this to remove the peek. There is a peek for the calendar, there is a peek for people, right now there's nobody in there, there's a search box, remember I have a search box right here too and it's the same. And if I'm in the calendar and I go to email, you'll notice that email itself doesn't have a peek. But if I'm showing, for example, tasks on my nav pane, and I point to tasks, tasks does have a peek. So it's easy for me to quickly grab a glance of calendar, people, or tasks without needing to switch to or open another of the Microsoft Outlook applications.
