Learn how to archive mail to leave it searchable, delete mail, and recover lost emails and empty the deleted items folder.
- [Jess] To delete a message while you're reading the message, you can click the trashcan icon right in the message pane, or from the home ribbon tab, click the delete button. To see it, click on trash in the folder list. You can see the date of when your messages were deleted. Depending on what type of policy your network administrator may have set up, if you're using exchange, these messages will most likely stay in the trash for 30 days. You can permanently delete something by going into your trash and clicking the delete button again.
If you wanna get the message back, the easiest way is to just drag it right back into the inbox. It removes it from the trash and puts it right back where it was. Something else that you may want to do with an email is archive it. You might not wanna look at it in your inbox anymore, but you still wanna be able to search on it later. To archive a message right in the message pane itself, you can either click the box button, or from the home ribbon tab, click archive, right next to the trash.
It's going to completely remove it from the inbox. To view your archived mail, you can click archive on the left hand side. Something important to note about archiving mail is that if you do wanna search on it while you're in your inbox, as soon as I click inside the search box, I need to go over and make sure all mail is selected, this way it's going to search the archived folder also. So when I come in here and type a term, it's going to pick things that are still in the archived folder also.
