RMAN supports taking incremental backups that can help create faster and more space efficient backups of your Oracle database. In this video, learn how you can take incremental backups with RMAN using the BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL command, how to take differential and cumulative backups, and how to create a backup strategy leveraging full and incremental backups together.
- [Instructor] In addition to creating full database backups…using RMAN, we can also choose…to create incremental backups.…We perform incremental backups…using the incremental parameter…as part of our backup command…and specifying the incremental level we desire…such as a level zero or a level one incremental backup.…For example, we can run an incremental level zero backup…of our database plus our archived redo logs…by typing the backup…incremental level zero database command.…
You can find this command included in your exercise file.…So, let's copy this command…and paste it into our RMAN prompt.…Note that I am telling RMAN to perform…an incremental level zero backup of the database.…I'm also tagging the backup…using the tag command…giving it the name of inc_level0…and by using the plus archivelog keywords,…I instruct RMAN to also perform a backup…of the database archived redo logs.…
Let's run the command and let the backup execute.…For incremental level one backups,…remember we have two distinct backup sub types,…
