- [Instructor] The storage allocated to users in an Oracle database, is not just one large pool of data carved out of the local disk drives or SAN. At the highest level, from a user's perspective, it's divided into logical entities called tablespaces. I'll tell you how they're used, and as a DBA, how you create them with a specific size, and how to let them expand automatically. So what exactly is an Oracle tablespace? An Oracle tablespace is a logical storage structure that comprises one or more physical files in the operating system file system, or ASM, automatic storage management. The DBA will add or drop tablespaces depending on security and manageability requirements. Each database user is assigned a default tablespace, but if they have the right permissions in a quota, they are able to create objects on any tablespace in the database.
