Marking an email for follow-up

You know that feeling that you get when you ask someone to do something, and you wonder if there they're ever going to get around to it? With the Follow Up feature built in Outlook, you can rest a little easier knowing that the e-mail will be flagged: for you or the recipient, or both. While composing an e-mail, pull down the Follow Up menu. Choosing any of the items in this list flags it for you but not your recipient. To flag the message for your recipient, choose Custom, and then at the bottom of the dialog box, click Flag for Recipients.

Optionally, you can create a reminder and specify a date and time. When you're done, press OK. With the e-mail written and flagged, go ahead and hit Send. There are a few things about this feature you should know; first, it only works on users who are also on Outlook; and second, if you send too many of these, you're likely to get some serious backlash. So use this feature sparingly like the e-mail stationery I showed you earlier.
