There are two types of recurring task patterns in Outlook 2016. One is on a schedule like a recurring meeting: for example, make the bank deposit every Friday. The second type of recurring task uses regeneration, which is based on a duration rather than on a particular day of the week, month, or year, is used for maintenance, auditing, and other work that cannot fail to be done, for example, every 30 days, every 12 weeks, or every 6 months.
- [Voiceover] Just as we have…recurring calendar appointments,…and recurring meetings, we can create recurring tasks.…And there are two different ways to think about this.…Let me give you an example of the first,…because it's by far the most common.…I have something that I need to do…on a periodic basis.…Right now we've had an issue with our backups…being verified, so I want to check in on Monday…to make sure that the backup process…that ran over the weekend went as it should've.…
So I'm going to set up a task…to check the backup on Mondays.…I'm going to set a reminder for myself to do that,…actually, as soon as I come in, eight AM.…Before our weekend IT staff has gone home.…And I'm going to recur this every week on Monday,…and let's do this for the next 10 weeks.…And I'm going to say okay, and save and close this.…
Now notice I don't get 10 new tasks on my task list.…I get one.…And it's right here, you can tell it recurs…if you can see that icon, because it has the little…recurrent symbol, cycle symbol,…on the clipboard with the check mark.…
