Join Curt Frye for an in-depth discussion in this video Managing sections and pages in online notebooks, part of Office Online Essential Training.
OneNote online is a terrific tool for maintaining records of conversations, classes, and projects. Like any note book, OneNote files are divided into sections and pages. In this movie, I will show you how to manage sections of the pages in the online OneNote application. My sample file is Notebook for zero nine zero one. And you can find it in the Chapter nine folder of the Exercise Files collection. This file contains a single page in a notebook that has a single section.
And you can see here in the navigation area that I have a section named Untitled Section and a page called Untitled Page. If I want to rename a section, then I can right click the section and click Rename. Then in the section name dialogue box, I can type a new name. And in this case, I will call it Project 1, and click OK. So now you can see that my section is named Project 1. If I want to add a new section, then all I need to do is click the add section button.
And I can name the new section that's coming up. And I call this one Project 2 and click OK. You'll notice that the new section was placed below the original section. I can also change the name of a page, but rather than right-clicking on title page, what I do is type in the title area here. So, for example, in the horizontal line above the date, I could type Meeting 05/29.
And you can see that the name also appears here in the pages tab in the navigation area. If I want to add a new page, I can click the new page button and I get another Untitled Page and here, once again, I can type in the title area. And in this case, I'll type Agenda Notes and my page is named. If I want to reorder pages in the navigation bar, then all I need to do is drag the page up above or below the other page where I want it to leave.
So when I release this page you'll see that Agenda Notes is now above Meeting 05/29, and I can always move it back down. I can do the same thing with sections. For example, if I want to move Project 1 below Project 2, well, I can just click Project 1, and drag it down, and the order changes. I can also make pages subpages by decreasing or increasing their indent. So for example, if I want to move Agenda Notes to a lower organization level than Meeting 05/29, then all I need to do is right click the Agenda Notes tab and click Increase Indent.
And you can see that it's been indented sightly. So it's like a sub-bullet on a PowerPoint slide. If I want to take it back to its previous level, I can just right click it and click Decrease Indent. And finally you can delete a section or a page by right clicking it and clicking Delete. When you get the confirmation dialogue box go ahead and click Yes. And as always please note that once you delete a page it's gone for good.
