In this video, learn how to change the transparency level for a graphical image you have placed on a slide, allowing you to see through to objects or text behind the image.
- [Instructor] Well it's easier than ever now to create transparency for images you're working with here in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel. We're going to take a look here. Using any document that has an image, you can see this image here on my first page overlaps text that appears in behind. Now because this image is not transparent, I'm not able to see the text in behind making it difficult to read but we can fix that. When we select an image here now in Word or PowerPoint or if you're working with images in Excel you'll see Picture Tools appear up here at the top and in the Adjust section now there's a Transparency drop-down.
Clicking this will give you access to presets and you can just hover over these to see the end result. You can see what happens when we hover over some of these transparencies such as 80%. We can now read what's in behind our image and we can select one of these or go to Picture Transparency Options to open up this tab on the right-hand side. There's our Format Picture and you can see Picture Transparency has the slider that we can adjust if we want to be very precise, we can use the arrows or type in a value.
So maybe 80% was not what we were looking for, we're looking for 82%, we can type that in, press return or enter on your keyboard to lock it in and see what that looks like. Now if we wanted to we could start moving this around knowing that it's not going to interfere with the text that appears in the background. Just click to deselect and you can see the end result clearly. So if you're working with images on PowerPoint slides, in a spreadsheet in Excel or here in a document in Microsoft Word, you can now quickly add transparency to those items, especially when they're overlapping other content, making it easier to see them.
