This video demonstrates how to set the default domain used by Office 365.
- [Instructor] In this brief lesson here, we will look at the objective of changing the default domain. And the so what behind changing the default domain is that it changes the default email address used for a new user when you go ahead and set up a new user. So, we'll look at a before and after instance of changing the default domain. So, here, I've logged on as the global admin to my Office 365 admin center.
I am managing the Bean Lake, LLC tenancy here. So, from here I will go ahead and add a user. Just click on the Users tile, Add user task. And it brings me this. And I certainly don't need to add these other things, 'cause I'm not going to go through the process. But here it is. The username is Brian@beanlakellc.onmicrosoft.com. So, if I click that drop-down, you see that I'm able to change this when I set up a new user.
But the default was that. Now, let's close this and we'll go into Domains. So, from the Domains tile... Give Domains a click. And you can see the default here. I'm going to click on this alternate domain. And this is the one I want to set as default by clicking on that big button there. So, the domain is successfully set as default. I can go ahead and close out of these things. Go back to my Home. Now, if you try to do it right away, it may not propagate right away, but if you wanted to change that default or see that change reflected immediately, I recommend a refresh of the page.
So, after the page reloads, I'll just go back down to Users and Add a user. And, unlike before, now the default domain is right there, beanlakellc.com. So any the user name I add will be appended to that. But I can change it back, if I want to, as you saw before. So, that's the before and after. And that is the significance of changing the default domain. And now you have one more exam objective under your belt.
