- [Instructor] Malware and spam are a constant threat, and on a regular basis, attacks from hackers or viruses are often reported in the news. In recent years, there's been a tightening of laws regarding how organizations are allowed to hold personally identifiable information or PII such as customers' bankers cards or employee details. They now have a legal duty to ensure that when this data is kept, it's kept safe and secure, and it must be protected from loss or theft, especially from malware. Malware, or malicious software, is any software that's been designed to infiltrate, infect, or negatively affect a computer system. Examples of malware include viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, rootkits, and dishonest adware. Nearly all malware is installed without the owner's consent.
