- [Instructor] Many companies allow their users to read their emails, check their calendar, and manage contacts using mobile devices. Exchange ActiveSync is the functionality that provides the ability to sync a mobile device to the corporate Exchange Server. Much of the internal plumbing related to Exchange ActiveSync is automatic and the user typically will not know that the device has been managed and synced. From a top level perspective, Exchange ActiveSync is a synchronization protocol and offers security protections for users who access their mailboxes using mobile devices. Exchange ActiveSync is a protocol that is used to sync data, email, contacts, and calendars from an Exchange mailbox to a mobile device. The synchronization protocol is based on HTTP and XML, which are standards-based protocols. Most common mobile platforms are supported, including Android, iPhones, and iPads.
