Create an EC2 instance

- [Narrator] In an AWS environment, you can create virtual machines, which Amazon refers to as virtual machine instances, through EC2. So let's go ahead and set one up. Right now, I'm logged into the AWS console and I've got a list of all of the available services on screen, and the first section that we see right here is Compute, and the first option beneath Compute is EC2. So let's go ahead and click on EC2. And when I do, this is going to bring up the EC2 dashboard. So you can see that we've got a Key Pair, and right now we don't have any running instances, or volumes, or anything like that, so let's go ahead and create a new instance. So the way that we would do that is by coming down here and clicking on the big blue launch instance button. I'll go ahead and click on that now. And so the first thing we have to do is choose an Amazon Machine Image, or AMI as Amazon sometimes calls them, and we have a number of different choices here.
