A straightforward way for educators to use Microsoft Excel is to create spreadsheets that help track student progress, whether to track student grades or progress on something else such as returned forms, 21st-century skills, or additional certifications. Microsoft Excel allows you to create equations that automatically calculate overall student progress, average progress, and more, as you enter new information.
- [Instructor] In the previous video,…I created a spreadsheet to track…student progress on 21st-century skills.…Now, as you can see, I filled out the spreadsheet,…including students, as well as several assignments,…and the correlating scores.…So, the next thing I want to do in this video…is to show you how we can use simple formulas…to do calculations inside of our spreadsheet.…Now, one feature that's neat, inside of the Excel…spreadsheets is that you can select a group of numbers.…So, let's say, for instance, for the Gallery Walk,…I want to see what the average score is.…
What I can do is I can click on the first one…and drag it down, so that I highlight this whole column.…And, when I do this, on the bottom,…we get a bunch of information.…It's telling me that the average score there is a 2.68.…We have 19 grades that are in there,…and they add together for a sum of 51.…Well, in this case, the average would be important.…It's telling me that my students got an average of a 2.68,…which isn't even quite proficient,…
