The DisplaceGeo node

The DisplaceGeo node

The displaced geonode uses the luminance of an image to shift or displace the vertices of 3D geometry. While endlessly useful, it's particularly cool for creating large pieces of terrain quickly and easily. Let's take a look. I have a basic card set-up here. But the first thing I want to do is set the orientation so it lays flat on the ground, so lets choose zx. Also eight rows and columns gives me just 64 polygons, not nearly enough, so lets push in a little bit here. And lets set the rows for 100 tab 100, which will give me 10000 polygons which should be pretty good for a basic set up. We're ready to add the Displacement node. So with the card selected, we'll come over to 3D>Modify>Displace Geo. The Displace Geo has this displace input. This is where the displacement image is connected. To show you how the displays geo node works, I'm going to hook it up to this checker board. Using the checker board as the displacement image makes it real easy to see what's going on. The bright…
