Creating new channels

We've seen Nuke's channel system, but now we'll see how to create our own channels and layers and give them sensible names that will help us to manage the complexity of our visual effects shot. We'll start with this jet image, which, as you can see, is in the RGBA layer. What I want to do is create a new layer called Jet and then copy the image from the RGBA layer into my new jet layer. So the way we create a new layer is, we go to the layer pop-up, then we select New, and we get the new layer dialog box. Under name, I'll type jet. Now to fill in the channels RGBA, I have this auto button over here. So if I click that, it'll populate the channels for me, saving me a lot of typing. So, I will click OK. Now the screen goes black. The reason it's gone black is when you create a new layer, the viewer immediately switches to that layer, you can see there it is jet. RGBA layer is still here but the jet layer is empty. So to find it we have to go to the other layers list. So the other layers…
