The 3D Viewer

The 3D Viewer

Nuke has a robust 3D capability that integrates seamlessly with its 2D compositing. You can't model an animated T Rex because the design intent of Nuke's 3D capability is to re-photograph live action elements, not model and animate 3D creatures. So let's get an overview of this whole 3D, 2D compositing thing. I have here a 2D Read Node, bringing in a 2D image. I'll connect that to this Transform Node, and now I've got a little animation applied to the 2D image. So these two are in the world of 2D. I attach that to this cube. I am now in the 3D world. And here's my 3D cube in 3D space. I'll zoom out a little bit. Notice that the 2D nodes are all square cornered in the Transform here. Where as the 3D nodes, like the cube and the camera are round. That's an easy way to tell the difference between 2D and 3D items. I also have a camera here. And now, as I scrub the play head, you can see the camera is moving. And my 2D image is moving on the cube. We can look through the cameras view port…
