Collecting input is made easy with the Node.js Readline module. In this tutorial, Alex Banks will build a Readline app that will prompt the Terminal user to answer an ongoing list of questions, and save those answers to the console.
So I'll create a variable and call it readline…and then I will require readline.…And once I have readline, I can create…an instance of the readline object…which will create prompt for me by sending it…the standard input and standard output objects.…So var rl will be my readline instance…and I will use readline to create an interface.…With this interface, we're going to send it…the process.stdin…and process.stdout.…
Readline is going to control these objects for us…asking questions and collecting information…
Alex Banks shows how to install Node.js on a Mac or PC and work with the Node.js core: the global object, event loop, http module, and file system. Then he covers reading and writing data, streaming data, making http requests, and working with the node package manager (npm). In the final chapters, he shows how to start sessions on web servers, communicate with web servers and clients with WebSockets, use the Express framework to develop applications, and test and debug Node.js code. Want to speed up your Node.js workflow? Check out the tutorials on automating tasks with Grunt and npm scripts.
