- Every computer that's directly attached…to the internet has to have a unique IP address,…or what call a public IP address.…These addresses are passed out…by an organization called…the Internet Assigned Number Authority, or the IANA.…Now, I need to be careful here,…because there's zillions of devices out there…that are not directly connected to the internet.…For example, lot of folks who have those…little home routers, the router itself is connected…and it has a legitimate public IP address…that's given to it from it's internet service provider.…
However, all of the little devices inside your house,…they're using a different type of IP address,…known as a private IP address.…So, not every single device out there…is actually directly connected to the internet,…but it does start with the IANA.…The IANA, which is based out of the United States,…keeps track of every IP address that's out there.…Now, keep in mind, with IP addresses,…there's only about, well two to the 32nd power,…or somewhere around four billion IP addresses.…
